Shuttleworth Hall Farm

David and Susan run a 180 acre farm in Hapton near Accrington. They used to concentrate on dairy farming but had to diversify to keep the farm a viable business. They opened the farm shop in 2001 selling potatoes and root vegetables. Since then, it has gone from strength to strength and now boasts an excellent selection of local produce. This includes succulent home grown beef, pork, and lamb. Chicken, rabbit and pheasant are also available and sourced locally. Home grown potatoes, cabbage, cauliflower, beetroot and tomatoes to name just a few are also available. We stock our range of chutneys and preserves as well as sourcing many of our ingredients from here. Come off the M65 motorway at Junction 8. If heading from Preston, take the first exit onto the A6068 signposted to Clitheroe. Shuttleworth Hall Farm is in approximately 100 yards on the left. The shop is open every day except Mondays.

Fylde View Farm

James and Stephanie Pope farm alongside Stephanie's parents at their 4th generation family farms, Fylde View and Back Lane in Hesketh near Preston.
Much of the land farmed in Hesketh Bank has been reclaimed from the sea, producing an excellent silt based soil for vegetable production. This type of soil has a ph of 7+ which inhibits a number of soil born diseases and parasites. This means they can farm effectively without needing to use large quantities of chemicals. They follow a mixed farming approach growing a wide range of crops like cauliflower, cabbage, broccoli, carrots, potatoes, beetroot, onions, swedes and beans not to mention the fabulous asparagus.
Cereals, mainly spring barley are used as break crops to allow the land to rest. The cereals are not wasted as the straw and corn are used to feed the family's herd of beef cattle which in turn produce manure to be put back onto the land.
